Geneva Motor Show - Kia

28 February 2006
Kia's triple whammy

There are three models of interest on the Kia stand – two production cars and one almost-complete concept.

One for families…
The all-new Sedona seven-seater MPV is on display for the first time. It's on sale in the UK this September and is likely to cost from just over £16,000.

The middle bench of the old car is replaced by three individual seats which slide, recline and fold. Like the rear pair, they can also be removed to turn the Sedona into a big load-hauler.

Although the new car is taller and wider than before, it is also shorter, so there's less luggage space with seven passengers on board.

Power comes from a 175bhp 2.7-litre V6 petrol engine, or a 183bhp 2.9-litre turbodiesel.

One for the future…
The Cee'd concept gives a very good idea of what the company's new Ford Focus rival will look like.

The European-designed and built car goes into production at the end of this year and should arrive in UK showrooms next spring.

It's a handsome enough design, but, just as Toyota did with the Corolla, it has perhaps erred on the side of conservative lines in the hope of pleasing European buyers.

…and one updated off-roader
Both the petrol and diesel engines in the face-lifted Sorento 4x4 see significant increases in output. The diesel leaps in power from 138bhp to 168bhp, while the new 3.3-litre V6 petrol offers 40bhp more than the old 3.5-litre engine, at 332bhp.

Rear legroom is a little better thanks to reshaping of the back of the front seats, while materials in the cabin also appear to have improved in quality.
