Geneva Motor Show - Lotus

28 February 2006
What's happening at Lotus, then?
The chaps from Norfolk have been busy – Lotus has two new models to show us at Geneva.

The first is the Europa S, which, when compared to the stripped-out Elise, is dripping with luxuries. For £33,000 you'll get carpet, a stereo, airbags and 2+2 seating.

There is also very likely to be sparkling handling, and thoroughly enjoyable performance from its 200bhp 2.0-litre engine, which whisks the Europa S to 60mph in 5.5secs.

The second new Lotus is the APX and, no, your eyes don't deceive you, it is a five-door hatch. Lotus is hoping that this concept car will demonstrate just how clever the car's platform really is – it's the same chassis used in the new Europa S.

Instead of building the APX itself, Lotus is hoping to flog its know-how to other manufacturers who may be looking for a quick way to build a small family car. This one has a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine, developing 300bhp.

A supercharged 300bhp 3.0-litre V6? Can I have that in the Europa S, please?
There are no definite plans as yet, but we very much hope so.
