Geneva motor show - Mitsubishi

06 March 2007
Worlds apart
The world debut of the V6 Outlander and the European debut of the Prototype X are the big news on the Mitsubishi stand - and the two cars couldn't be more different.

The Prototype X is a beast of a car that utilises a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine and all-wheel-drive system - known as Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC). It's also got a new F1-style paddle-shift gearbox.

It's fair to say that in the performance car playground, it's going to be a bit of a bully.

Outlandish then?
Yes, you're right - Mitsubishi was also proud to unveil its new Outlander. Its diesel engines are sourced from Volkswagen and Peugeot, and its chassis will form the basis for the new Citroen C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007 4x4s.

Is the Outlander on sale now?
Yes. The new car went on sale on March 1. The engine line-up includes a 138bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel, a 154bhp 2.2-litre turbodiesel and an all-new 168bhp 2.4-litre petrol.

There are three trims. Equippe is the entry-level trim and has air-conditioning, six-speaker CD/MP3 player, stability and traction control, and electric windows and doors. Equippe models start from £19,449.

Warrior trim costs from £21,999 and adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a folding third row of seats, curtain airbags, body kit, cruise control, Bluetooth hands-free telephone kit and a leather-covered steering wheel.

Elegance models have heated leather seats, a sunroof, satellite-navigation system, a 30-gigabyte music server, DVD player, and a nine-speaker 650W sound system. Elegance trim costs £24,749.
