Geneva motor show - Porsche

06 March 2007
Fresh Cayenne
Porsche unveiled its new Cayenne to European audiences and, to be quite frank, it's not massively different from the old model.

Most obvious of the changes are the revamped bumpers and narrower headlamps. The front air intakes have been restyled and the wheelarches are more heavily contoured. On the Turbo model, there are a couple of bonnet bulges and horizontal indicators.

The rear bumper has also come in for some attention. The rear bumper includes a diffuser-style design, and there are revamped light clusters and a bigger spoiler.

Mechanical changes
The V6 has grown from 3.2 to 3.6 litres, giving an extra 40bhp. The new engine will take you from 0-62mph in 8.1 seconds, and fuel economy has improved across the line-up.

What's it like to drive
It's smoother than the old model and you still get responsive steering and precise handling. If you want to pep up the whole driving experience, you can opt for Porsche's Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), which will make the Cayenne seem even more car-like.

What other engines are available?
The S model is a bit of a beast. It has a 385bhp 4.8-litre V8 under the bonnet that will take you from 0-62mph in 6.6 seconds.

The top-end Turbo model still uses a V8, but that has twin turbos and delivers a mighty 500bhp. This will whisk you from 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds.

What does it cost?
The 3.6-litre model will set you back £37,100 - £1540 more than the previous car. The Turbo has a price tag of £74,650 - an increase of £3780.
