Geneva Motor Show - Rolls-Royce

28 February 2006
Sleeker Rolls
If Rolls-Royce's Phantom is a bit too big for you, then how about this? The 101EX is a sleek, chic – and slightly smaller – coupe version of its gargantuan saloon.

In place of the Phantom's four doors comes a pair of rear-hinged items, designed to let four passengers step inside, rather than fall in backwards, Rolls says. It's lower and shorter than the saloon, too.

Rapid style
Despite its stately intentions, the 101EX is no slouch. It uses the Phantom's 6.8-litre V12 engine which, combined with the lightweight aluminium chassis and composite plastic bodypanels, should hustle the concept car to 60mph in less than six seconds.

Naturally, the 101EX is dripping with exquisite Rolls detailing: soft leathers and rosewood and oak veneers adorn the four-seater cabin, while many of the exterior highlights are milled from pure aluminium.

When can I buy one?
Well, it depends who you ask. For now, Rolls insists that 'there are no plans to put the 101EX into production', but it said that about 2004's 100EX convertible concept – and that model will go on sale this year.

We reckon you'll be able to buy a Rolls coupe within two years. Don't expect much change from £260,000, though.
