Geneva motor show - Skoda

06 March 2007
Have we been here before?
We liked the look of the Skoda Roomster when we first saw it here in Geneva last year, and this time it's the all-new Fabia that's at the top of the cute-looks list.

The new Fabia continues the design direction started by the bug-eyed Roomster, and it's slightly bigger and taller than the old Fabia.

The difference is most noticeable in the boot, with a 300-litre load area with the seats up. That increases to 1163 litres when the rear bench is folded flat into the floor.

The interior takes its styling cues from the Roomster, too - short on style but big on clarity.

The driving position is higher than before, giving a good view out at the front. There's also a plenty of adjustment for both the steering wheel and driver's seat, so making yourself comfy should be easy.

There will be four petrol and three diesel engines to choose from, ranging from a lowly 60bhp 1.2 petrol up to a 105bhp 1.9 turbodiesel.

What's it like to drive?
We've already had a short test drive in the new Fabia. To get our first impressions of the car, click here.

What about vRS?
A sporty Fabia won't appear until the latter half of 2008, but expect an estate version at the beginning of next year.

Anything else new?
Not really. If you like your rally cars, there's a Super 2000 version of the new Fabia, but don't expect to see it in competition until next year.
