The European Union says that cars are responsible for 12% of CO2 emissions across the member states, but Davies says that figure is increasing as the car population grows, despite more fuel-efficient engines.
Road transport is cited by the Department for the Environment as the cause of 22% of Britain’s CO2 output.
‘The United Nations estimates that by 2025, 1.8 billion people will suffer acute water scarcity as a result of climate change, leading to mass starvation. Anything we can do to prevent that has to be worthwhile,’ Davies said.
