Honda has revealed more details of the new Civic Type R that will go on sale in 2015.
Honda's head of research and development for the Civic, Suehiro Hashi, told What Car? that the hot Civic will get a new mechanical differential to improve traction and handling.
This is just part of the company's push to create the best-handling and fastest version of the car yet.
Honda has already said that the new Civic Type R will be influenced by the Civic World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) car (pictured), which suggests that it will get a turbocharged engine for the first time.
The WTCC car has a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine and the Type R could get a version of this. Honda's previous Type R models have all used high-revving naturally aspirated VTEC petrol engines.
The company has already stated that it wants the new Civic Type R to set the fastest time for a front-wheel-drive vehicle on the Nurburgring race track in Germany, which would mean bettering the Renault Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy's record of 8min 8sec.
However, Hashi maintains that, while the Nurburgring record is a benchmark for the new Type R, the Civic will also be tested in the UK to ensure its suitability for what is the car's second biggest market.
