If you've ever driven a Honda Civic Type R, you'll know it's one of the finest hot hatches money can buy. However, just because something is already great, it doesn't mean you can't make it better.

Just ask Mugen. Honda's favourite fettling partner has taken the fast and frenetic Type R, and made it positively fearsome.

Never heard of Mugen? It's a company that works closely with Honda to develop and build high-performance parts for motorsport. In the past, Mugen has been responsible for supplying engines to Formula One teams such Prost and Jordan, and these days, the firm prepares Honda racing cars for various race series around the world.

In producing this new concept car, Mugen's engineers took a regular Type R and analysed every nut and bolt to see how performance could be maximised. The result is the most hardcore of hot hatches, and one with a genuine racing pedigree.
