Honda is recalling more than 3000 Civic small family cars over fears the engine could fail to start or suddenly stall and fail to restart.
The manufacturer has found that water left in the fuel tank during testing procedures could cause corrosion on electrical components of the fuel pump system. Fuel pressure could suddenly drop as a result and leave motorists unable to start their cars.
Engines could also stall on the move and then subsequently fail to restart.
In all, 3036 cars built in May and June this year are potentially affected by the defect. Owners are being contacted by Honda with the offer of free checks and remedial work.
