Teaser images of the Honda Urban SUV Concept have been released.
The compact crossover concept car will be unveiled at the Detroit motor show in January, and preview a Nissan Juke rival that a Honda source says 'will be based on the Jazz platform'.
Honda's concept car will use the company's centre-tank layout, which allows more room in the rear due to the forward placement of the fuel tank.
It is likely to be powered by the company's new 1.6 i-DTEC engine or 1.8-litre petrol, and be available with either front- or four-wheel drive.
The car is aimed at the American market, but will also be sold in the UK.
Several new compact SUVs are due on sale over the next 12 months; the Vauxhall Mokka is available to order now, while the closely related Chevrolet Trax is expected in the spring.
Also coming in 2013 are the Peugeot 2008 – an SUV based on the 208 – and the new Ford Ecosport, a Fiesta-based SUV.
An SUV based on the all-new Renault Clio is also due next year, and Fiat has announced that it will expand its 500 range with an SUV based on the 500L.
