Honda wants one in 10 cars it sells to be a hybrid by 2010.

At present, the Civic Hybrid accounts for about 3% of the company's total car sales.

However, company president Takeo Fukui has revealed plans to launch two new models so that hybrids account for 10% of all sales.

The Global Hybrid will go on sale in 2009, with Honda hoping to sell 200,000 cars a year.

Although details are scarce, Fukui has pledged that the price will be significantly lower than any hybrid model currently on sale.

In addition, a sports hybrid based on the CR-Z concept car revealed at the Tokyo motor show will go on sale late next year or early in 2009.
