Hot Golf raises its game - Introduction

Hot hatches keep on getting quicker and more powerful. This time last year, the Golf GTI’s 197bhp output looked more than healthy – now the Vauxhall Astra VXR and forthcoming Ford Focus ST offer more dash for less cash.

The Golf R32 puts these two back in their place, albeit at a price. A walloping 247bhp secures bragging rights, but with prices starting at nearly £24,000, it’s more expensive than the Ford and Vauxhall. Is the R32 worth the extra?
