Fiat Grande Punto

Fiat is to launch a series of sporty versions of its all-new Grande Punto supermini.

The Grande Punto GT will be released this summer. It will be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine, producing either 120bhp or 140bhp.

If you fancy your Fiats really hot, wait until summer 2007 for Abarth versions of the Grande Punto, complete with a 2.0-litre 240bhp unit.

Prices and performance details have yet to be released but we would expect to pay at least £16,500 for the Abarth and £12,500 for the GT versions.

Fiat also has plans for a coupe-convertible version of the Grande Punto with a folding metal roof.

However, Fiat is concentrating on its sporty versions of the Grand Punto for now. The drop-top will only go into production if Grande Punto sales go well, and won't reach UK showrooms until summer 2008.
