Kia is considering a hot version of its Kia Rio, as a rival to cars such as the Ford Fiesta ST.
The hot Rio would join the 200bhp Kia Ceed, which is expected to be launched in 2014.
Kia's vice-president for marketing and product planning, Benny Oeyen, said: 'I think a Rio in a hot version would be very cool.'
However, he said the Rio would not get the 1.6-litre, 200bhp engine that's destined for the Ceed. 'I think for the Rio it would probably be a smaller engine.'
The faster version of the Kia supermini is still some way off, though, as Oeyen said: We need another year and a half [on top of the hot Ceed] to develop it, if we give it the green light.'
