How good is our crystal ball? - Audi A5

We published these Audi A5 computer generated images in May 2006, when Audi confirmed it would be releasing a raft of new models over the coming years.

The first to arrive was the S3, then the new A5 coupe earlier this year, but we're still waiting for a production version of the Q5 compact 4x4.

The A5 is on sale now, with prices starting at £26,190 - £1000 more than our estimated price when we published the photo.

Computer-generated image The swooping lines running down the side of the car are the outstanding features of this image. The front styling is typical of Audi, but the rear lights are narrower than those on other models around in early 2006.

Production car The front is similar to the CGI, although the headlights are larger on the final design. The swooping lines seen in the CGI are here in the production A5, but follow the car's curves more closely. The boot is longer than predicted, and the tail-lights are a completely different shape.
