Environmentally sound driving is a hot topic. In the last budget, a new tax band was introduced for the highest polluting cars.

Transport secretary Alistair Darling also pledged £1.3m to help educate the notorious 'White Van Man' to drive more efficiently. The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) makes instructors study 'eco-safe' driving, which is claimed to improve safety, cut fuel consumption and save money. It might even become part of the driving test.
