An unscrupulous garage might try and sell you a car without telling that it's a pre-reg. Here's how to spot a pre-reg and stay one step ahead of the salesman.
• Get all quotes in writing and check carefully for the term Pre-reg or 'demonstrator' vehicle;
• Ask if you're buying a pre-reg;
• If you're happy to buy a pre-reg, ask to inspect the V5C and see who is the registered keeper;
• Some pre-reg vehicles are older models or pre face-lift cars, so check what you're buying;
• Make sure you ask about when the car will be registered in your name;
• Don't be fobbed off by the salesman when they say that 'keeping the V5C is usual for all new car sales';
• Don't hand over any money until you're happy;
• Make sure you're getting the best deal by opting for a pre-reg over a new car;
