It sounds too good to be true, but this is the kind of jaw-dropping saving you might get if you buy what is known in the trade as 'the pre-reg'.

Buyers can get massive discounts on pre-registered cars. Our mystery shop of 100 pre-reg cars produced an average discount £2782, or 16.16% off the list price.

Even when you compare that to the What Car? Target Price, the pre-reg still represents good value: the average saving was £1472, or 9.49% greater than the Target Price.
