Should I Supagard my Mini?

I am in the process of buying a new Mini, and the dealer is strongly advising that I purchase Supagard body protection. I know the dealer will make a big profit from the 350 he's asking, but should I go for it?

Youre right, the dealer will be making a healthy profit by charging you 350 we reckon the actual cost of the treatment is 100-150.

Supagard exterior protection can slow down the dulling of your cars paintwork, which is caused by ultraviolet light. Bright colours, such as reds, are particularly prone to this, which is why older cars often appear more pink than scarlet.

The treatment can also help protect the paintwork from organic matter, such as bird droppings and tree sap.

However, as most car polishes contain a fine abrasive, you're in danger of cutting straight through the Supaguard if you use one.

If you do decide to go ahead with Supagard, don't pay the full 350. The large profit margin means the dealer will almost certainly be willing to negotiate on the price. Even if the salesman makes only 50, its still worth his while.

Make sure you get a certificate confirming the Supagard treatment has been applied. This might help when you come to sell the car.
