Infiniti's 'small' 314bhp 4x4

* 3.7-litre V6 to join 4x4 range * Car will be called FX37 * On sale this October...

Infiniti has added a 314bhp V6-powered 4x4 to its range ahead of the brand's launch into Britain.

The engine will slot into the same chassis as the FX50, which was revealed at the recent Geneva motor show, and will be known as the FX37 in deference to its 3.7-litre V6 engine. The engine will be linked to a new seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox.

The FX37 also features four-wheel drive, although the system only operates when the car is accelerating from a standstill or tackling slippery road conditions.

Standard equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels, a rear-view parking camera, Bluetooth connectivity, keyless entry and adaptive front headlamps.

Options include cruise control, an electric sunroof, rear privacy glass, front foglamps, light and rain sensors and six airbags.

In addition, buyers can select two options packs: Sport and Multimedia. Sport adds computer-controlled suspension, which adapts to road conditions, sports seats and 21-inch wheels. Multimedia adds an 11-speaker Bose music system and sat-nav.

The FX37 will go on sale in early 2009, alongside the G37 Saloon, G37 Coupe, EX37 and FX50. Prices will be released shortly before launch.
