With the 5008 MPV, Peugeot isn't so much reinventing the wheel, as putting new tyres on it. It has borrowed most of the best bits from sister firm Citroën's class-leading Grand C4 Picasso, then concentrated on improving the few areas where its talents are a little short of substance.

As closely related as they are, you're unlikely to confuse the two. The 5008's dashboard design and exterior styling owe more to Peugeot's 3008 crossover small family car than the Citroën, and Peugeot has retuned the steering and suspension to make its car better to drive.

Initially, all UK 5008s will have seven seats (a five-seater may be offered later) and you can specify some clever new technology. How about a fighter jet-style head-up display that helps you keep your eyes on the road at all times, or a system that warns you if you're getting too close to the car in front?
