Just one in 15 motorists carries a road atlas in their car, according to a survey by satellite-navigation manufacturer Snooper.
That compares to one in five motorists carrying an atlas just five years ago and highlights the rapid growth of motorists using satellite-navigation systems.
Further investigation by car supermarket Motorpoint concluded that 72% of motorists prefer using an electronic navigation system, which it says reduces the average distance travelled by 16% and time spent travelling to an unknown destination by an average of 18%.
