Jaguar's C-X16 concept car, revealed here, is a glimpse of the car maker's future sports cars, says the firm.

Smaller and cheaper than the XK Coupe, the production version of the C-X16 will give Jaguar a rival to the Porsche Cayman.

Jaguar will unveil the all-new model at the Frankfurt motor show next month.

In this sketch of the concept car, the profile view shows a mid-section similar to the XK, but there’s a sharper front end and shorter rear overhang.

The narrow rear light and curved ‘shoulders’ show the influence of Jaguar’s C-X75 supercar.

Jaguar hasn’t released any technical details, or confirmed what the new model will be called. We expect it to go on sale during 2012, and that it will be launched with downsized petrol engines.

Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar global brand director, said: ‘Jaguar has set in place bold, ambitious plans for the future. This production concept demonstrates the depth of design and engineering ability we have within Jaguar to make these plans come to life.’

The C-X16 is expected to form part of a Jaguar Land Rover product plan that will result in 40 'significant product introductions' over the next five years.
