Jaguar and Land Rover get advanced voice recognition by early 2015

Jaguar and Land Rover drivers will be able to dictate text messages or engage with Twitter while on the move from early 2015, as a result of a new tie-up announced today to launch what is described as 'one of the most advanced voice recognition packages in the world'.

The new app is called JustDrive and will be available for use in any Jaguar or Land Rover fitted with the firm’s latest InControl Apps system from January 2015. It will work with both Apple iOS8 and Android phones.

The app allows drivers to integrate multiple apps into a single, voice-activated in-car function. It will also enable voice control of the navigation system, or the driver to voice control online radio stations such as Spotify.

Jaguar Land Rover’s InControl Apps system will offer 18 apps including Stitcher, IheartRadio and Parkopedia when it launches next year. It will be free to download and will be continuously updated as new technology is launched.

Jaguar Land Rover has also announced it is opening its first overseas R&D facility. Focusing on future infotainment and connected car technologies, the £2m centre will be based in Portland, Oregon.
