Jaguar could return to the compact executive battlefield in 2014, and once again take on the BMW 3 Series.
Our computer-generated image shows what the X-Type replacement could look like, with styling likely to closely follow the XF and XJ.
The compact Jaguar is still some way off, however, with sales unlikely to start before 2014.
In fact, the car is likely to be beaten to the market by at least two other new Jaguars - an XF estate in 2011 and a smaller sports car brother to the XK.
