Jaguar tops 2013 JD Power survey

For the second year in a row, Jaguar has claimed the top spot in the What Car? 2013 UK Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study released today in association with J.D. Power and Associates.

'This is another great achievement for everyone at Jaguar,' said What Car? editor-in-chief Chas Hallett. This study shows that customers are really satisfied with their Jaguars.

Lexus is placed second overall, Honda third, Skoda fourth and Mercedes-Benz fifth, Chevrolet is ranked at the bottom of the rankings, which are drawn from the evaluations of more than 16,000 online interviews of UK car owners.

Land Rover is the star performer in the 2013 survey, moving up six places to take sixth place, the first time it has appeared in the top 10.

The study also reveals the ratings of 116 individual models, with the Skoda Superb posting the top score for customer satisfaction, followed closely by the Skoda Yeti in second place. The Chevrolet Spark sits at the opposite end of the scale, with the Alfa Romeo in the penultimate place.

The winners in each category are as follows: Volkswagen Fox is the best city car, Citroen DS3 is best supermini, Toyota Prius is the best small family car, Skoda Superb is the best family car/compact executive, the Jaguar XF is the best executive car, Mercedes-Benz B-Class is the best MPV, the Skoda Yeti is the best compact SUV and the Lexus RX is the best large SUV.

The study measures customer satisfaction with the vehicle and dealer service, and is based on evaluation of 66 attributes grouped in four key measures. In order of importance, they are: vehicle appeal (31%), which includes performance, design, comfort and features; vehicle quality and reliability (22%); ownership costs (25%), which includes fuel consumption, insurance and costs of service/repair; and dealer service satisfaction (22%).

The 2013 UK Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study (VOSS) is based on the evaluations of over 16,000 online interviews from UK car owners after an average of up to three years of ownership. The study was fielded in December 2012 and January 2013.

116 car models from 28 brands were included in the survey, the average age of the owner was 50-years, with 58% male and 42% women. The survey respondents collectively drove 340 million miles.

The annual What Car?/J.D. Power and Associates study gives consumers access to reliable and accurate information about many vehicle models, and helps manufacturers provide high levels of satisfaction to their customers.
