Job losses at Land Rover

08 February 2006

Land Rover has confirmed that it has plans to cut 1300 jobs from its main UK plant at Solihull in the West Midlands.

It hopes that the job cuts will be achieved through a voluntary redundancy programme.

Land Rover previously announced that it would switch production of its Freelander model from Solihull to its Halewood plant on Merseyside, affecting 1000 jobs. Manufacture of diesel engines for the Defender model has moved to parent company Ford's plant in Dagenham, Essex, affecting a further 300 jobs.

Defender, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models will continue to be built at Solihull.
