The all-new Kia Carens MPV will cost from £17,895 when it goes on sale in May.

This entry-level price buys the 1.6-litre petrol engine in 1 trim, while there is also the option of a 1.7-litre diesel in two states of tune. There are three trims available: 1, 2 and 3.

Every model comes with a high level of equipment as standard, including seven seats, LED daytime running lights, electric and heated door mirrors, interior leather trimmings, air-conditioning, four electric windows, cruise control, Bluetooth, iPod connectivity and steering wheel-mounted controls.

The 2 trim adds 16-inch alloys, automatic lights and wipers, dual-zone climate control and parking sensors. Upgrade to 3 specification and you get 17-inch alloys, heated front seats and steering wheel, leather upholstery and a reversing camera.

Range-topping 3 trim is only available with the higher-powered 134bhp 1.7-litre diesel mated to the six-speed manual gearbox. It does 0-60mph in 10.0 seconds and has average economy of 56.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 132g/km.

Mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox – available with 2 trim only – the 134bhp 1.7 diesel does average economy of 46.3mpg, with CO2 emissions of 159g/km and a 0-60mph time of 11.6 seconds.

The 114bhp 1.7-litre diesel is the most efficient in the range, with average economy of 60.1mpg and CO2 emissions of 124g/km. The entry-level petrol manages 44.1mpg and emits 149g/km.

Every Carens comes with seven seats as standard, with the middle row consisting of three individually sliding and folding seats. All five of the seats in the rear fold down flat to boost carrying capacity, while the front passenger seat also folds forward to increase load length.

The new Kia Carens is available to order now, with deliveries starting from May 1.
