Koenigsegg Quant

This is the Koenigsegg Quant, a four-seater electric supercar that is designed to recharge in part using solar power.

At present it is only a static model, but Koenigsegg says it is working towards making a working prototype.

It isn't going to be easy, though, as it has set lofty targets of a 15-20 minute recharge time for teh lithium ion batteries and a range of 325 miles.

It is powered by two electric motors that deliver 505bhp and 527lb ft of pulling power. As a result, it is expected to travel from 0-62mph in 5.2sec and have a top speed of 171mph.

Extra power will come via the thin photovoltaic coating that covers the car, soaking up solar energy and using it to charge the battery.

The car, which is rear-wheel-drive and is projected to weigh 1780kg, has been designed to be as slippery as possible, and records a drag co-efficient of 0.27.

Safety measures include anti-lock brakes and stability control.

Access to the rear is eased by gullwing doors, and Koenigsegg says there is space for four adults and their luggage to be carried in comfort.
