The Lamborghini Veneno - a racing-inspired supercar built to celebrate Lamborghini's 50th anniversary - has been unveiled at the Geneva motor show.

Based on the Lamborghini Aventador, the Veneno uses the same 12-cylinder, 6.5-litre engine and seven-speed ISR semi-automatic gearbox. The engine produces 740bhp and sends drive to all four wheels. The Veneno's top speed is a claimed 217mph.

The Veneno sits on a racing chassis made completely from carbonfibre. The whole of the car has been designed with weight reduction, minimal drag and optimum downforce in mind.

Carbonfibre is also used on the bodywork along with bespoke grey metallic paint. Combined with sharp lines, aggressive lights, wide sills and wheelarches, scissor doors and an arrow-shaped front, the Veneno is unmistakably a Lamborghini.

Inside, the carbonfibre chassis is visible around the centre tunnel and there are lightweight bucket seats that are covered in a carbonfibre compound to reduce weight further.

Only three examples are going to be made and all of them have been sold at a price of €3.5million (around £3milion) excluding tax. The buyers will receive their cars later in the year.
