Now it's in black and white, it couldn't be more obvious that Land Rover's LRX is going to go into production, even if it is still officially a concept car.

This black new model of the car on show here in Geneva is very similar to the original, white, car, but demonstrates what Land Rover calls 'a contemporary example of personalisation.'

Black paint, a silver roof and mesh inserts in the air intakes mark this particular car out, although speculation already suggests that customers may be offered many other options in order to customise their cars.

The roof is made of carbon and is removable. It also has built in mounting points for snowboards and skis. The roof bars are also new, and there’s now a step on the rear bumper.

Shorter and lower than the Freelander, the LRX will be priced upwards of £20,000. Power will come from a 2.0-litre diesel engine assisted by an electric rear axle drive that can move the car unaided at low speeds.

The team who created it are determined that the production version should stay as faithful as possible to the concept, including the futuristic interior.

Land Rover Defender SVX
Land Rover is having a birthday party at Geneva this year. It is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a limited-edition Defender, the descendant of the car that launched the brand in 1948.

The special-edition Defender SVX is about as far removed from the car’s workhorse image as you can get. It features metallic black paint, tubular side steps, alloy wheels, an aluminium undershield, clear-lens headlamps, and LED reversing lights and rear foglights. Farmers needed apply.

Inside, there are Recaro seats, an alloy gearlever, Garmin satellite-navigation and a new stereo with iPod connection. Each car will have an individually numbered plaque.

There will be hard- and soft-top versions, both based on the short-wheelbase Defender. Soft-top models have a silver tubular cage that supports a black fabric hood.

The SVX will be priced from £30,495 and the UK will get about 300 cars.
