Latest crash-test results - Mazda 5

21 September 2005
Overall 5/5 stars
Front impact 84%
Side impact 100%
Child protection 64% 3/5 stars
Pedestrian 33% 2/4 stars

Although the footwell of the Mazda 5 ruptured and distorted in frontal impact tests, protection afforded to passengers was generally very good.

The windscreen pillars moved back 20mm in the trials but the passenger compartment was judged to have remained intact.

Side impact results were very strong, and the Mazda netted the maximum possible score from Euro NCAP.

Child tests used the Britax Baby-Safe Plus for the 18-month-old baby and the Britax Duo-Plus for the three-year-old. All round protection was strong, although the 18-month-old experienced higher chest loads than the three-year-old.

Pedestrian results were poor. The leading edge of the 5 provided no protection, while only isolated areas of the bonnet would cushion the pedestrian.
