The car lost only a fraction of a point for its protection of the dummy representing a three-year-old child in the front and side tests. However, a high vertical acceleration was measured in the chest of the dummy representing a one-and-a-half year old child in the frontal test - this could result in chest injuries to the child.
The passenger airbag can be deactivated to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be used in that seating position, but information presented to the driver regarding the status of the airbag was not clear enough.
The presence of ISOFIX anchorages in the outer rear seats was also not clearly marked, but the Outlander has a seatbelt reminder system for the front seats.
The bumper scored maximum points for the protection it offered to pedestrians' legs. However, the front edge of the bonnet was rated as poor.
