Overall occupant protection 4/5 stars
Front impact 75%
Side impact 100%
Child protection 65% 3/5 stars
Pedestrian 50% 2/4 starsFront-impact performance by the Nissan was good, although parts of the dashboard do present a risk of injury to knees and thighs.
Euro NCAP allowed Nissan to put a second car through the side-impact tests after the curtain airbags failed to deploy in the first trials. Now this potential fault has been eliminated from the car, Euro NCAP has awarded the
Pathfinder full marks in this test.
Although the Pathfinder comes with ISOFIX
child seat mountings as standard, Euro NCAP said they were not sufficiently well marked. The Nissan also lost points because the front passenger airbag can only be deactivated (free-of-charge) by a Nissan dealer and not be the owners. Chest loads recorded by both child dummies were also high in the child protection tests.
The leading edge of the Pathfinder’s bonnet offered no protection to pedestrians, so no points were scored here. A fair amount of the bonnet surface provided some cushioning, so the Nissan scored two out of four possible stars in the final pedestrian analysis.
