Lexus GS300h to join the range
Lexus doesn't offer a diesel option in its executive car and the GS300h is the second hybrid to join the range after the GS400h.
The new car is aimed at company car and fleet buyers who would otherwise look to four-cylinder diesel models from rival manufacturers. Lexus is aiming for CO2 emissions of less than 110g/km to help secure sales in such markets.
Powered by the same 2.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor fitted to the IS, the rear-wheel-drive GS300h will have a combined power output of 217bhp.
Average economy and emissions figures haven't been confirmed, but in the IS this powertrain emits 99g/km of CO2 and averages 65.7mpg. The bigger GS won't be able to match these, but it will be able to compete more effectively with rivals' diesel models.
All cars in the GS range get a generous standard specification including leather seats, DAB radio and rear parking camera.
UK sales of the Lexus GS300h will start at the end of the year, with prices to be confirmed nearer the on-sale date.
