Naza Sutera

This is the first official image of the Naza Sutera, the latest bargain-basement vehicle aimed at the British market.

Until now, Naza has mainly been an importer of luxury vehicles into Malaysia, but it has also assembled cars for Kia.

The Sutera is its first car – a small five-door hatchback with an engine from Daihatsu, styling by Pininfarina and suspension set-up by Lotus.

The 1.1-litre four-cylinder engine produces 65bhp so performance is likely to be more economical than earth-shattering.

Equipment on the Sutera, which could retail for around £6500 or less in the UK, includes a split-folding rear seat, CD player with MP3 compatibility, dual airbags, electric windows, power steering and central locking.

British importers at the car's unveiling say an agreement to bring the car here is already in place, but there's no detail on what kind of dealer network there will be or an exact date yet for the Sutera's arrival.

Rumours suggest that another larger model will be revealed shortly. This larger car is thought to be based around the Peugeot 206.
