Specialist insurer Young Marmalade has modified its scheme to provide cheaper insurance for drivers aged 17 to 25.

The company's pay-per-mile scheme has been dropped in favour of a fixed fee according to age.

The scheme was introduced to allow young drivers to finance a new car and enjoy cheaper insurance by taking the Pass Plus driving test. After nine months with no accidents, members receive a 40% no-claims discount.

The scheme is linked to a number of selected new cars, which Young Marmalade has chosen according to cost, insurance rating and safety factors.

Cars available through the scheme include the Fiat Panda for £120 per month, which includes car finance and insurance. Other cars area available from Fiat, Citroen and Nissan.
