If the only thing stopping you ordering a Maybach luxury car was its tardy 0-62mph time of 5.4sec, you've no longer any excuse.

So long as you can find an extra £32,500, you can now buy the more powerful (by 62bhp) 57S model for £289,000.

Using the same 6.0-litre bi-turbo V12 engine as found in the Mercedes SL 65AMG (a snip at just £145,975), the 57S pounds to 62mph in just 5.0sec. Top speed remains electronically restricted to 155mph.

Fuel consumption is only marginally worse than the standard car at 17.2mpg, but you're still looking at a yearly fuel bill of more than £3000. Still, thanks to a 110-litre tank, you won’t be at the filling station as often as you may think.

The car’s emissions mean it has a place in the top 35% company car tax band, so steel yourself for monthly bills of £3372 as well.

According to Maybach, 'discreet and tasteful,' exterior details set the 57S apart from the slower version of the car, including a modified radiator and headlights, spoked 20-inch alloy wheels and single-tone paintwork in silver or black.
