Mazda's stylish new five-seater 4x4, the CX-7, will arrive in the UK next April, a few months earlier than expected.
A turbodiesel version created for Europe will follow in 2008.
The CX-7 goes on sale in America next month, powered by a detuned version of the 2.3-litre turbo engine from the Mazda 6 MPS sports saloon.
The petrol engine will initially be the only option in Europe, probably with a little more power than the 244bhp available to American buyers.
Europeans will also get a six-speed manual gearbox in place of the six-speed auto fitted in the US.
The front-wheel-drive version that is available in America will not make it across the Atlantic. All European CX-7s will have electronically controlled all-wheel drive.
The CX-7 is likely to be offered in the UK in one high-level specification for around £25,000 – cheaper than the Nissan Murano, its most obvious rival.
