Mazda 5 gets new year makeover

03 December 2007

Mazda will release an updated version of the 5 next month, which it promises will be greener, more economical and better to drive than the current model.

The MPV will also have a revised 2.0-litre petrol engine and a choice of two new gearboxes - a six-speed manual as standard or a five-speed automatic.

Mazda claims that carbon dioxide emissions in every model will drop by between 8-11g/km, while the 1.8-litre petrol and all diesel models will drop one road tax (VED) band.

Exterior modifications on the 2008 models include new bumpers, grille, and front and rear light clusters.

A new seven-inch touch-screen sat-nav system will also be available, which is integrated with a rear-view camera to aid parking. And for the first time, there's the option of having electric sliding rear doors.

Prices have yet to be confirmed, but the updated cars will go on sale in the UK in January.
