This is the Mazda Kiyora concept car, which shows how the new Mazda 1 city car will look when it goes on sale in 2010.

The car will be the first of a new generation of lightweight, fuel-efficient Mazdas that incorporate green technology in a bid to dramatically cut emissions.

The Kiyora name is a result of that, as it translates from Japanese to mean 'clean and pure'.

Kiyora is powered by a four-cylinder petrol engine and features a stop-start system to cut the engine when the car is at a standstill, reducing fuel consumption. However, no fuel or carbon dioxide emission figures have been released.

Although the Mazda 1 will be built on a new platform, it is likely to share many of the mechanical parts with the Mazda 2 supermini.

The Kiyora will be unveiled in the metal at the Paris motor show on October 2.

Other world firsts
Mazda has also announced that it will unveil its Mazda MX-5 facelift in Paris, as well as showing a Mazda 6 powered by its new 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine and a Mazda 2 powered by a new 1.6-litre diesel.
