The depths of winter might seem an odd time to launch a new convertible, but that's exactly what Mazda has done with the new MX-5 Niseko special edition.

Named after one of Japan's biggest ski resorts, the Niseko is available in 'Icy Blue' metallic or -'Sunlight Silver'.

Other upgrades over the standard spec include a new design of 17-inch alloy wheels, a body-coloured finish for the style bar trim, front foglamps, chrome detailing, and brown leather upholstery.

Prices start from £17,995 for the 1.8i, rising to £19,995 for the 2.0i. With the standard cars priced at £15,730 and £19,030, that's quite a hike, but Mazda the Niseko's extra toys are worth £2000.

The Niseko goes on sale 1 January. Just 240 1.8-litre models and 560 2.0-litre versions will be available.
