Mazda MX-5: the next chapter - More power for the future?

24 June 2005
Mazda is highly likely to launch a more powerful version of its new MX-5 roadster, likely to produce in excess of 250bhp.

The manufacturer has backed away from its earlier commitment to produce hot MPS (Mazda Performance Series) versions of all of its cars, but it has already launched a 6 MPS family car and will follow up with a 3 small family car towards the end of this year.

With its rear-wheel-drive layout and focus on driving enjoyment, the MX-5 is crying out for an extra dose of power. It’s more than likely that the two-seater will use the same engine as the 3 and 6; a 2.4-litre unit which produces 256bhp.
