Mazda has taken the concept of an environmentally friendly car a step further by developing interior materials made from plant-derived fibres.

The bio-fabric does not contain any oil-based materials, but still has the durability of regular car interior materials used for car seat covers.

It is also resistant to fire and abrasion, and is not damaged by sunlight.

No date has been set for when the material will be used on production cars.

Mazda has previously developed a bio-plastic that has been used on instrument panels in concept cars, but it has not gone into mass production yet.
