Mazda has announced it will unveil a heavily revised RX-8 at the Detroit motor show next month.

The show starts on January 13, and, as well as the revised RX-8, Mazda will also display its Furai track-day concept car.

Although details of the RX-8 remain sketchy, Mazda promises a refreshed design, improved handling, stronger acceleration, enhanced quality and extra features.

The Furai concept car is based around the Courage C65 racing chassis that competes in endurance events in America. Although it is road-legal, it is expected to be built with track use in mind.

It is powered by a 450bhp triple-rotor rotary engine that will run on bioethanol or synthetic alcohols.
