Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG revealed

This is the new Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG roadster, which goes on sale in the autumn.

The range-topping version of the SL roadster is powered by a 6.0-litre V12 twin-turbo engine that produces 621bhp and 738lb ft of torque. It is twinned with Mercedes seven-speed automatic gearbox. The SL65 AMG can blast from 0-62mpg in just four seconds, and has a limited top speed of 155mph.

The SL65 AMG has a modified version of the active suspension system used for the SL63 AMG, which includes an Active Body Control system that limits body lean through corners. It also gets AMGs new speed-sensitive electro-mechanical steering system.

To keep weight down, the SL65 AMG has an aluminium bodyshell and a bootlid made of carbonfibre. That helps towards average economy of 24.4mpg, and CO2 emissions of 270g/km. An engine stop-start system also helps to improve economy and cut emissions.

As youd expect, the SL65 AMG comes with all the Mercedes roadster trimmings, such as active parking assist, Mercedes Comand sat-nav system with six-disc DVD changer, Keyless Go and a Bang and Olufsen stereo system.

The folding roof can be raised or lowered in less than 20 seconds, and can also be ordered with Magic Sky Control. This turns the transparency of the glass in the roof from transparent to opaque (and back).

The SL65 AMG goes on sale in the autumn. Pricing is yet to be finalised, but we'd expect something in the region of 150,000.
