Mercedes is introducing a new digital record system to replace service books.
The Digital Service Booklet (DSB) is being phased in across Mercedes' range with immediate effect, and is designed to ensure that all service records are kept up-to-date.
The system means that car owners won't have to remember to take their service books in with the car when it is being serviced, and there will be no problems with missing stamps when they come to sell the car.
However, owners will have the option of receiving an official print-out of the vehicle's service history, covering when and where it has been maintained.
DSB will initially be introduced on the E-Class and CLS models.
Non-franchised workshops will be provided with access to DSB under Block Exemption regulations, although they will not be able to access customer records and service histories.
A similar system has been used successfully by Mazda since July 2006, when it became the first manufacturer to introduce such a system.
