The new R-Class MPV/4x4 cross from Mercedes will cost from £38,470 when it arrives in UK showrooms on April 6.
A 272bhp 3.5-litre V6 petrol will power the entry-level R350, while the 224bhp 3.0 V6 diesel in the R320 CDI will cost just £5 more.
The top-of-the-range R500, with the 306bhp 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine, starts at £49,990.
Mercedes describes the six-seat vehicle as a 'Grand Sports Tourer' – taking all the best bits from a sporty saloon, estate, MPV and 4x4. Every R-Class will come with a seven-speed automatic gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive.
Entry-level models come with goodies such as automatic headlights and wipers, climate control, electric windows, six airbags and a host of safety acronyms such as ABS (anti-lock brakes), ESP (stability control), 4-ETS (traction control).
Upgrade to SE spec for another £2950 to get metallic paint as standard, fully electrically-adjustable front seats, walnut trim and leather upholstery. Opt for Sport models – also a £2950 premium over the base model – and get 19-inch alloy wheels, and black aluminium detailing. A long wheelbase R-Class costs an extra £1500.
