MG unveils new Zero supermini concept

MG has revealed a new supermini concept car called the Zero at the Beijing motor show.

At around four metres long, the car is a touch bigger than rival superminis such as the Ford Fiesta and Hyundai i20.

It's expected to go on sale in the UK in 2012 and should cost from around £9000.

Sales and marketing director Guy Jones said: 'MG Zero is crucial to the development of the brand globally, as it gives a clear direction for the future beyond the current products'.

At the moment, the MG TF roadster is the only MG in production, although the company will start to build the four- and five-door MG6 family car at Longbridge from this October.

After the Zero, which is likely to be called MG3, there'll be a small family car to rival the VW Golf.

MG is now owned by the China's Shanghai Automotive (SAIC), the successor to the company that bought Rover after it went bust.
